Mrs. Terralon W. Chaney began her first term on the Board of Education January 2011 as chairperson. She is a proud graduate of Twiggs County Public Schools. She continued her education with Fort Valley State University, Georgia College & State University, and Nova Southeastern University. Mrs. Chaney has served Twiggs County Public Schools in many capacities; she taught High School 9-12th grades, Alternative School Facilitator, Nationally Certified Parent Educator and also taught grades 2, 3 and 5 at Progressive Christian Academy in Macon, Georgia. Mrs. Chaney said that working in the Twiggs County school system allowed her to see the need for improving leadership and quality education for our children. Mrs. Chaney is a member of New Providence Baptist Church, Jeffersonville, Georgia and she is also involved in community organizations to include; American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Twiggs Inter-Agency, Family Connections, Twiggs/Wilkinson Navigator Team, and Macon Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Yolanda Thomas began her first term on the Board of Education in 2007. An advocate for the youth, she became a board member to make a difference in the lives of children through education. Her favorite inspirational quote is, "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you." Thomas and her family are proud graduates of Twiggs County Public Schools. After charting her own path in life, Thomas returned to Twiggs County Public Schools to show students that it's never too soon to make a difference. She is an active member of Williams Chapel C.M.E. Teresa Blackshear began her first term on the Board of Education in January 2009. Blackshear is an advocate for students and firmly believes that all children deserve access to a quality education. She remains committed to improving student test scores and exploring creative ways to help students learn and retain information. Blackshear believes Twiggs County Public Schools can accomplish stellar results by recruiting high performing teachers and administrators. She states that "Together, we can make a difference, as I put the children's interest first, when I make decisions." Blackshear is an active member of Danville Baptist Church. Her list of accomplishments includes Danville Community Fair Outreach (member), Relay for Life (2007 and 2009) and Twiggs County Leadership (2008). Lacharn Dennard began her first term on the Board of Education in January 2011. As a native of Twiggs County, she has always felt a sense of pride in this community and wants to take a more active role to ensure that all children have the skills, resources, and opportunity to compete wherever life takes them. While attending Twiggs County Elementary School and Twiggs County High School, Mrs. Dennard said that the faculty and staff always pushed the students to excel and were told, “that we had to work harder than our counter parts.” Upon graduating and attending college, she saw that this statement was true and that she had been prepared for her journey. Her favorite quote is, “The starting point for all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind.” Mrs. Dennard is an active member of D.D. Memorial Baptist Church in Dry Branch. She serves in many capacities to include a member of the Praise Team, Choir, Zealous Women for Christ Ministry, Benevolence Ministry, and Youth Ministry. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Mrs. Dennard and her husband both graduated from Twiggs County High School and have two children that currently attend Twiggs County Schools. Shirley Stokes began her first term on the Board of Education in 2004. She believes students who are involved in their studies and apply themselves will see higher returns on their investments. "I joined the Board of Education, because I wanted to be a positive role model and make a difference in the lives of children and young adults. I wanted to make things better for our children," she said. A First Responder with Twiggs County Fire and Rescue, her responsibilities include helping injury victims and assisting persons through house calls.· Stokes has three grandchildren who each attend Twiggs County Public Schools.
